Department stores and hypermarkets operator Target has promoted CFO Michael Fiddelke to COO, effective February 4.

Until the company names a successor, Fiddelke will also continue his duties as CFO.

Before he became CFO, Fiddelke held several SVP and director positions at Target, where his career began as an intern. He also previously served as a consultant with Deloitte.

“I started with Target as an intern 20 years ago, and right away I knew I was joining a special company,” said Fiddelke.

“Operations are at the heart of how we serve our guests, and I’m looking forward to spending even more time with our team members in the field as we build for the future.”

Meanwhile, Target is expected to name a new chief legal and compliance officer as Don Liu is set to retire from the position.

Liu will transition to a strategic advisor with the company until next year.

“Over the past eight years, I’ve had the privilege of working with exceptional leaders and a talented legal affairs organization,” said Liu.

“My sincerest thanks to everyone at Target for the experiences and relationships that have shaped my time with the company, and I look forward to helping ensure a smooth transition upon my retirement.”

The company has also named Rick Gomez as chief food, essentials and beauty officer, and Jill Sando as chief merchandising officer of apparel and accessories, home and hardlines.
