Amazon-owned grocery retailer Whole Foods Market has unveiled a quick-shop store format in urban neighborhoods it says will offer customers convenient and easier access to its products.
The new format – Whole Foods Market Daily Shop – will debut on the Upper East Side in Manhattan with the first location at 1175 Third Avenue this year. The company plans to expand the model to additional locations in New York City before introducing it in other cities.
Each quick-shop outlet will cover 7000 to 14,000 sqft, about a quarter to half the footprint of an average Whole Foods Market store.
The new stores will offer grab-and-go meals and snacks, weekly essentials, and a quick and easy destination to pick up ingredients to complete a meal. There will be a selection of fresh, seasonal produce, meat and seafood, prepared foods, alcohol, supplements, and handpicked local specialties. The Third Avenue store will also be the first Whole Foods Market location in Manhattan to offer Juice & Java, which sells various drinks and desserts.
“At our new store formats, we’re tailoring every square foot to the unique, fast-paced needs of urban lifestyles,” said Christina Minardi, EVP of growth & development at Whole Foods Market & Amazon.
“Expanding our footprint with Whole Foods Market Daily Shop is key to our growth, fostering deeper customer connections, and advancing our purpose to nourish people and the planet.”
Founded in 1980 and based in Austin, Texas, Whole Foods Market is part of Amazon’s Worldwide Grocery Stores business, with more than 530 stores across the US, Canada, and the UK.
