The Watches of Switzerland Group has acquired the e-commerce and editorial site Hodinkee as part of long-term plans to fortify its position in the industry.
Following the acquisition, Hodinkee will run independently under the Watches of Switzerland Group umbrella.
Hodinkee founder and former CEO Ben Clymer will return to lead the company for the first time since 2020. Its New York City-based headquarters will continue normal operations, with staff remaining unchanged.
“Hodinkee distinguishes itself in the world of horology, and while our goal is to provide Hodinkee with a home to continue to flourish, we are proud to gain valuable insights from their groundbreaking team and operation,” said Brian Duffy, CEO of the Watches of Switzerland Group.
With this deal, the digital platform will join Watches of Switzerland’s growing portfolio, which includes its namesake label, Mappin & Webb, Goldsmiths, Mayors, Betteridge, and Analog:Shift.
As of September, the group had 221 showrooms across the UK, US and Europe, including 96 dedicated mono-brand boutiques.
The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
