Walmart has named Venessa Yates president and CEO of its Canadian business, succeeding Gonzalo Gebara, who is departing the company at the end of February to return to Argentina.

Prior to the new appointment, Yates held the position of SVP and GM of Walmart+, the company’s membership program.

Yates’ career at Walmart began in January 2016, when she worked as senior director for business development.

Previously, Yates served as senior own-brand manager at Woolworths and as buying director at Aldi Australia.

In addition to Yates, Walmart has appointed Steve Schrobilgen as COO.

Schrobilgen currently serves as SVP at Walmart, following his over 22 years of career at Sam’s Club, where he held various leadership roles, including VP and regional GM.

Earlier, Walmart made waves as it announced that it would be rolling back several diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs.
