Sandal maker Birkenstock is making its haute couture debut, launching a bridal collection in partnership with fashion designer Danielle Frankel Hirsch.
Unveiled in Paris and New York this month, the capsule combines the German shoemaker’s heritage style with Hirsch’s romantic aesthetic to offer a “refined reimagining of comfort”.
The collection features four reworked classics and two new customizable designs exclusive to Danielle Frankel.
Birkenstock’s first sandal, the Madrid, is updated with slender ties highlighting its minimalist lines. The Arizona appears in pure white satin with rhythmic pearls, alongside a pared-back unisex black version. The Tulum features a delicate pearl-trimmed crossover and a slingback strap.
Two styles are custom Danielle Frankel creations: the hand-painted Bespoke Boston and the Bespoke Arizona, hand-embroidered with chiffon blooms.
A confessed longtime Birkenstock customer, Hirsch said she approached the collaboration as a thoughtful study of the brand of more than 700 silhouettes.
“My entire family owns multiple pairs that we wear year-round,” she recalled.
Hirsch added that the collection speaks to the spirit of modern weddings and sees the shoes worn outside of the wedding day.
“Our brides are looking for designs that prioritize beauty and innovation while allowing them to be fully present and comfortable throughout their celebration,” she said.
“This collaboration was made with that balance in mind and reflects how weddings are today: a little less precious, more grounded in who a couple really is, while still feeling elevated, intentional, and beautiful.”
