Nike is set to remove two executive roles from its senior leadership team, CEO Elliot Hill has announced.

Current chief supply chain officer Venkatesh Alagirisamy, who has been with Nike for 20 years, will enter the newly established role of executive vice president (EVP), COO.

Alagirisamy’s new role will start on December 8 and will see him lead Nike’s technology department, in addition to his existing responsibilities.

“He and his team will now be able to look end-to-end to ensure technology is fully integrated across the company and into how we create, plan, make, deliver and sell our world-class innovations across our three iconic brands,” Hill said.

However, the change comes with the removal of the EVP, chief technology officer role, and Dr Muge Dogan will now leave the company. Hill thanked Dogan for her work and wished her well.

The second role to be removed from the SLT is chief commercial officer, held by Craig Williams. In its place will be the establishment of four new ‘geography leaders’ – representing Nike’s major markets.

These are Angela Dong (Greater China), Carl Grebert (EMEA), Tom Peddie (North America) and Cathy Sparks (APLA). All will be responsible for strengthening the leadership team’s connection with consumers, Hill said.

“This move is about growth and offense – giving Sales and Nike Direct an even stronger voice in how we set strategy and invest,” he added.

“It also reflects the critical role the marketplace plays in driving Nike’s success, including our Win Now actions. Our physical and digital footprints will continue to celebrate the passion and emotion of sport, highlight our innovations and game-changing products, and inspire consumers wherever they experience our brands.”
