National Geographic will make its New York Fashion Week debut on February 10 with a show called Nat Geo Presents: ‘Fit for a Queen’.

The ‘Fit for a Queen’ show is created and led by women, both onstage and offstage. It features looks from designers including JêBlanc, Theophilio, Studio 189 and Bed on Water, as well as jewelry from Almasika and L’Enchanteaur and shoes from Téjahn Burnette.

The show is inspired by the docu-series Queens, which follows six worlds controlled by the animal kingdom’s most spectacular female leaders.

The ‘Fit for a Queen’ fashion show will emphasize matriarchal motifs from the current season of Queens, including African Queens with the lioness, Coastal Queens with the brown bear, and Savanna Queens with the elephant. It will feature holographic images of these animals alongside powerful female models on the runway.

According to Nat Geo, this event transcends fashion, emphasizing how the firm is changing the natural history genre with influential women at the forefront, both in front of and behind the camera.

“New York Fashion Week is arguably pop culture’s most epic and influential event of the year,” said Janet Vissering, senior VP of production and development at National Geographic and lead executive in charge of Queens.

“While it might seem a wild departure for Nat Geo, what better place to give a nod to queendom and celebrate our contribution to the movement of unstoppable women and powerful female matriarchs.”
