Levi Strauss has launched a public art initiative, “These City Walls”, which will see the creation of 25 murals across San Francisco over the next year.
The initiative is in partnership with 1AM Projects and local artists, with murals will be installed in the Financial District, Union Square, Tenderloin, Soma, East Cut, Potrero Hill, and Japantown. The first to begin will be the refurbishment of “West Coastin”, a well-known mural in Potrero Hill originally painted in 2011.
The project aims to celebrate the company’s 25th Annual Community Day, strengthening Levi Strauss’ commitment to its hometown through volunteerism, arts, and local partnerships.
“We’re going to do our part to ensure the city’s future is as bold and bright as its past – and these murals are just one step in that larger effort,” said Michelle Gass, president and CEO of Levi Strauss.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie praised the initiative, calling it a strong example of how large companies can play a role in the city’s resurgence.
“ New murals designed by local artists will beautify our neighborhoods while making our communities more welcoming for residents and visitors,” he added.
Founded in San Francisco in 1853, Levi Strauss has granted more than $5 million to support more than 1600 employee-led volunteer projects worldwide since launching its first Community Day in 1999.
