Dick’s Sporting Goods books higher net income in fiscal third quarter

Dick’s Sporting Goods recorded higher net profit after sales rose in the third quarter, thanks to the back-to-school season and continuing market share gains.

Net income grew 13 per cent to $228 million while net sales rose 0.5 per cent to $3.06 billion. Comparable sales inched 4.2 per cent higher.

“From our data, Dick’s grew its share of shoppers over the occasion helped by competitive pricing and good brands,” said Neil Saunders, GlobalData MD.

“Like in adult apparel, Dick’s is now being used for a wider array of back-to-school needs, including general apparel. Interestingly, kids find Dick’s a more interesting and engaging destination than many mainstream retailers, which probably nudges some parents in Dick’s direction.”

Dick’s raised its full-year comparable sales growth guidance to between 3.6 per cent and 4.2 per cent and earnings per share guidance to a range of $13.65 to $13.95.
