Chipotle Mexican Grill will enter Mexico on Thursday with the opening of its first restaurant in Nuevo León under its partnership with restaurant operator Alsea.
The restaurant will serve Chipotle’s signature menu of customizable burritos, bowls, salads, tacos, and quesadillas. The company said most ingredients will be sourced from suppliers across the region.
“We are entering Mexico with deep respect for the country’s culinary heritage and a commitment to delivering the Chipotle experience with excellence,” said Scott Boatwright, CEO of Chipotle.
“Nuevo León is an ideal place to begin this journey, and with Alsea’s operational expertise and deep local market knowledge, we look forward to serving new guests and earning a place in Mexico’s vibrant dining culture.”
Mexico is the latest stop in the company’s expansion plans.
In 2023, Chipotle signed its first international development agreement with Alshaya Group to expand into the Middle East, where it now operates 15 restaurants across the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar.
Last year, Chipotle also formed a joint venture with South Korea’s SPC Group to introduce the brand to Asia. Its first South Korean restaurant is expected to open later this year, followed by its Singapore debut early next year.
Chipotle currently operates more than 4100 restaurants worldwide, including more than 80 in Canada, 20 in the UK, six in France, and two in Germany. It expects to open between 350 and 370 new restaurants this year.
