Authentic Brands Group (ABG) has completed its acquisition of American denim brand Lee from Kontoor Brands and has appointed One Jeanswear Group (OJG) for US and Canada expansion.
The acquisition deal, agreed in May, is valued at up to US$1 billion. Since announcing the deal, ABG has also secured a series of operating partners to expand Lee’s global presence through its licensing model.
Under a long-term partnership with ABG, OJG, a subsidiary of Premier Brands Group Holdings, will lead Lee’s day-to-day operations in the US and Canada, overseeing product development, sourcing, merchandising and distribution.
Led by CEO Chris Waldeck, OJG will build on its denim and apparel expertise to support Lee’s next phase of growth. Lee’s headquarters will remain at Revolution Mills in Greensboro, North Carolina, while its distribution centre in Mocksville will continue operating.
“This is an exciting time for the Lee brand, as it will be an integral part of OJG’s overall growth initiative,” said Waldeck.
“Lee is one of the best-known denim brands in the world, and its legacy is a strength. The team has industry experience and talent as well as a wealth of institutional knowledge and passion for Lee that can’t be replicated. Keeping the headquarters in North Carolina creates a consistent foundation; together we will build upon that to drive long-term growth.”
Beyond North America, ABG has appointed regional operating partners, including Experience Group in Europe, HiMaxx in Greater China and Union Group in Mexico.
