Curtis International has expanded its recall of Frigidaire mini-fridges to 964,000 units after receiving additional reports of the products catching fire.
According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Canada-based importer initially recalled 634,000 units in July 2024 and has now added around 330,000 more mini-fridges to the alert.
The CPSC said the affected products contain internal electrical components that can short-circuit and ignite the plastic housing, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.
The latest expansion includes the six-can mini-fridge model EFMIS121 with serial numbers between A2001 and A2310. It also covers previously recalled models: EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149, and EFMIS175.
The EFMIS121 model was sold in red exclusively at Target stores nationwide and online between January 2020 and October 2023 for $30.
Curtis International has received at least six reports of the EFMIS121 model catching fire, resulting in property damage. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers are advised to stop using the mini-fridges immediately and register for a refund via the official recall website.
The recalled products were manufactured in China by ShangYu North Electron Manufacture Co.
