Walmart has opened a new convenience store concept in Plano, Texas, as it encountered positive demand from earlier stores in Fort Worth and Arkansas.
Branded Walmart Fuel Station, the stores feature deli goods, produce, snacks, lunch options, a coffee station, soda-fountain drinks, donuts and beer.
Anne Hatfield, Walmart’s director of communications for Texas, told local media the earlier stores had been a success.
“It is another way Walmart is offering our customers choice and convenience that save them time,” she said.
Three more Walmart Fuel Stations are planned for Texas before the end of this year and another in Ohio. Hatfield says Walmart finds Dallas-Fort Worth a useful testing ground for new services and concepts.
“Dallas is a great market for us and a very important market,” she said.
The Plano store is 2900sqft and has eight fuel pumps outside. All of the Walmart Fuel Stations will be located in the parking lots of Walmart Supercenters.
