Fast Retailing’s GU to open New York City flagship

Uniqlo’s sister brand GU has established a flagship store in New York City, marking the brand’s first official flagship location outside of Asia as well as its regional debut online. 

Located on the main street of New York’s SoHo, the store spans two stories and covers 10,225sqft. It sells women’s and men’s apparel as well as a selection of on-trend products such as shoes, purses, and accessories. 

The online store, which will sell the same products as the physical store, will open at the same time and will distribute GU products across the country

The debut follows the brand’s first pop-up store in the US, which opened in the autumn of 2022 and will close later this year. 

“We have applied what we learned from the pop-up store to establish a framework for product development and business operations at a global level,” said GU CEO Osamu Yunoki.

“We will also launch our online store at the same time and hope that even more customers will enjoy GU fashion.” 

GU was founded in 2006 as a sister brand of Uniqlo and now has roughly 470 locations in Asia, primarily in Japan.
