Ace Hardware has reported a 3.9 per cent increase in its second-quarter revenues to $2.8 billion this year.

The increase was attributed to gains in the company’s lawn and garden, grilling, impulse, and outdoor power equipment categories.

The company’s net income was $119.1 million, up from $114.4 million in the same period last year.

Ace Hardware experienced a 0.8 per cent decrease in US retail same-store sales during the second quarter of this year, resulting from a 2.1 per cent decline in same-store transactions.

The retailer’s traditional hardware format stores saw a 0.4 per cent decline in same-store sales, excluding its lumber and building material stores.

“In a macro-environment that has confounded and humbled even the best retailers, I’m delighted to report a 3.9 per cent increase in revenue, a 4.1 per cent jump in net income, and an 18.1 per cent surge in our digital business,” said president and CEO John Venhuizen.

Ace Hardware opened 38 new domestic stores and closed 20 stores in the second quarter of the year, bringing its total domestic store count up to 5195 stores.

In the first quarter, Ace Hardware reported sales of $2.2 billion, a 4.2 per cent increase.
