Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers plans to open 60 new restaurants this year as the fast-casual chain continues to expand into new markets across the US and Canada.

As part of its multi-year growth strategy, the company is targeting expansion across the Northeast, Midwest, Rust Belt, Pacific Northwest, Northern California, and Florida.

Andrew Thengvall, chief development officer at Freddy’s, said franchisees continue to drive the brand’s growth, with about one-third of operators investing in additional territories.

“A strong franchise system is built on operators who see long-term opportunity within the brand,” he said.

To support its development opportunities, Freddy’s says it is expanding beyond its traditional standalone restaurant with a focus on endcap and in-line formats.

The smaller footprints offer franchisees increased site flexibility while reducing investment costs, with in-line restaurants starting at $854,834 compared with $1.59 million for standalone locations.

“We remain focused on supporting our franchisees through new restaurant prototypes, greater real estate flexibility, and development strategies that help position the brand for sustainable growth,” added Thengvall.

Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers operates more than 580 restaurants, serving cooked-to-order steakburgers, shoestring fries, and frozen custard.
